Marketing My Notary Business
When you own a business marketing is such an essential part of being successful.
I currently am a self employed mobile notary public and loan signing agent. I do general notary public work and also notarize real estate transactions. I started my business back in October 2020 and have recently lost my job and now do this full time. It's been a learning experience and has been a great business.
Marketing 101
Lets talk about the what marketing is and why it's so important. Marketing is the act of promoting your products, or services in order to reach your targeted audience and make revenue. Marketing is crucial at any point in your business but it might be all you do as you are trying to establish a business.
Marketing My Notary Business
General Notary Work
There are a several things I do to market my general mobile notary business and mostly for free.
1. Google!!!
Yes google is amazing, it has given me so many leads! Just register your business with google my business and create a free website with them too!
2. Yelp!
Yelp is also a free website with millions of daily traffic, it is user friendly and easy to communicate with your potential customers through messages.
3. Spread the word out!
People are not going to just know you're a notary public you have to spread the word. Make sure you have business cards with you where ever you go, or your website ready to share.
4. Swag!
Believe it or not, when you're out there taking signings or work and your wearing your notary public shirt someone my approach for your business info. If your driving constantly to all your signings and you car has a business sticker with your info you can get new customers. It's all about letting people know what you do!
5. Network
Networking is so important, drop off some goodies with your contact info to your local offices and let them know you are available. Stop by at a local church and let them know you are offering your services free of charge. Find and connect with notaries around your area that can send you work when they can't take it or vice versa.
6. Give back
Make sure you give back to your community, whether it is by providing your services for free or supporting local business. Drop by and support other local entrepreneurs, buy, donate, give because the more we give the more the Lord will make our business blossom.
Loan Signing Agent Work
As a loan signing agent it is a lot more work to go out there and market and you will definitely be spending some money, but not too much.
1. Networking Events
Attend local or even state wide business events, where you might me not only realtors, loan officers, but CEO's, managers for different types of businesses. The best thing you can ever do as a business owner is network.
2. Gifts
Stop by your loan officers, escrow officers and realtors office with some gifts that will help them remember you next time they need a mobile notary. Leave plenty of business cards and I also like to leave a flyer with my information.
You can leave goodie baskets, muffins, cupcakes, drinks, personalize holiday gifts, gift cards and many other items. Make sure you follow me on tiktok for ideas and more tips!
When you call in you have to have a script prepare to help with the nerves and make you seem and feel confident.
3. Script for Dropping by Gifts
INTRODUCE YOURSELF. I recommend first introduce yourself and then ask them if they use mobile notaries, in house signings or signing services.
GIVE THEM A SOULTION TO THEIR PROBLEM. Now don't sell yourself just yet, be the solution to their problem. If they do in house signings ask them, wouldn't it be better to not waste your time in signings and rather take care of all your other tasks? If they use signing services remind them of the hassle it is to work with them and how unprofessional signing services can be. If they have mobile notaries let them know you're available and have a team in case you ever happened to not be available.
SELL YOURSELF BUT DO NOT BE TOO PUSHY. Sell yourself professionally and not too much. Ask them if it'so okay to leave the goodies you brought along with some business cards. Let them know when you are available and how far you are willing to travel.
4. Emails
I got my first direct client through an email and he ask to stop by the office to chat. The power of email is strong and its so easy and free!
5. Thank You Notes
If you work with signing services sending back thank you notes with business cards can go such a long way. Even just dropping some genuine thank you notes to direct clients reminds them of how appreciate you are.
Marketing will give you leads, clients and work which will help you and your business succeed. Building a business is not easy and there are no shortcuts but it will help you to learn from other people's mistakes. Implement what helped others succeed and be patient, nothing can be built over night.
On another note, I never want to promote the hustle culture we currently live in. I want to be financially free and have the ability to travel, see the world, work on my own schedule (I'm working 18 hrs a day now). In no means is it with the mindset of wanting more and more work. Remember to give time to yourself, listen to your body and if you have to let a signing pass let it pass, which is why being part of a team of notaries is great.
God Bless, thank you for reading, let me know in the comments below if you tried any of these marketing strategies and if it worked!
